It's blogging time!

Hi everyone,

Let's try something new as I've never had a blog before. The idea is just so that I can post about the latest movies I've seen, new additions to my collection and overall cool visual effects subjects like breakdowns.

This past year has been a great one for me as I got to work on one of the biggest movies out there to date, namely Avengers: Infinity war at Digital Domain in Vancouver. This company was responsible for the opening sequence of the film and all other Thanos pieces, except for the battle on Titan. I would say that they did an amazing job of making the big purple guy look exceptionally real/believable.

Once I finished the project I got to go the the Marvel Studios Crew Screening in Los Angeles and experienced it in the same theater where big movie premieres were held for other films. It was a short trip but gave me a chance to see L.A. for the very first time and catch up with an old friend that lives there.

Once I returned home to Vancouver I was back at Digital Domain to work on Ant-Man and the Wasp. Where we got to work on some cool looking shots in the Quantum Realm and the after credits scene that will be posted below. For the after credits we replaced all the skylines. A short contract but always happy to return to this company. The thing I've experienced there is a great team setup and work that is extremely fun to do.

As summer hit and work seemed to dry up for the rest of the year I found myself returning to CVD VFX, a small company in North Vancouver where I got to work on the Netflix original A Series of Unfortunate events, that comes out January first. Can't say anything about what I worked on as it has not been released yet BUT I got to do an entire sequence of an episode. One of the cool things was that the director Barry Sonnenfeld loved the comps to the point that as soon as he saw it for the first time he took a picture and sent it to the director of photography. As my contract came close to an end at that company I ended up getting an offer to help on the movie Venom. It was very much an in between job until my return to the current company I work for.

With 2018 coming to a close all I can say is that even though the work in Vancouver seems to have slowed down a fair amount, I have been lucky to roll from one project to the next. Let's cross our fingers and see what 2019 has in store for me.
